Apparently this song is quite popular among the Tamils in Malaysia and
Singapore. I had quite a shock this morning when I heard it being
played on a radio station here. Hmm... do people know that it's a
corrupt form of a Sinhalese baila song Surangani ta malu genava
(brought fish for Surangani)? What does "ka maal kanawa" mean? Is it
Tamil?

How close we are... Hmm... (sigh)

muther fukers...

not just singapore dude..the tamils here in aus sing it at their
get-togethers. Apparently bila music is all the rage with the tamils.
Thathi's an outside caterer and he reckons at most of these tamil
functions it's all sinhalese music being played- nothing tamil
whatsoever!

Few Tamils from TN told me "Sinhalese songs are great, like Surangani
".
I'said this is considered crap by the SL government and it was banned
by the radio stations. I don't know whether they play it now on radio
in SL?

I did a web search, here is the song:

Now that I listend to it, I think it is a classic (forget the meaing)
even though I never liked it. It sounded like a Tamil song though.

Here is a song I really like, he sings in Tamil too. Most SL Classic
songs are quite difficult to understand since they sing with some
high level poetic language.

The theme of this song is, "why we have armed ourselves to destroy the
land we were bourn"

The singer also ask the question, why we destroy the world first and
they raise the victory flag?

This should be a theme song during peace talk between Tamil Terrorists

This song was sung by Gratian Ananda &co in th 60s(?).
I still like this and other old pops.

surangani"... the song almost has the same shades of the song..a teasing
song..really... will definitely slow down the tempo as " september madam "
no clue as to how mani is going to handle this... who knows...just when

could have come up with something "jumbalaika" but then fitting the story
